Duke Men’s Basketball Set for Match Against Howard
DURHAM, N.C. — The fifth-ranked Duke men’s basketball team is set to face Howard University on Sunday, November 23, at 4 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium. This game is part of the Brotherhood Run, a concept aimed at strengthening ties between alumni and current players.
In their last outing, Howard defeated Niagara, 80-70, on Saturday. Senior guard Bryce Harris led the Bison with 20 points and five rebounds as the team prepares to take on the Blue Devils.
Harris, a 6-4 senior, has had a standout season, averaging 22.4 points and hitting 52.2% of his three-point attempts. Other key players for Howard include 5-11 junior Cam Gillus, who contributes nearly 10 points and 4.8 assists per game, and 6-5 junior Alex Cotton, averaging 14.3 points.
Duke, led by head coach Jon Scheyer, is looking to capitalize on its strong start this season. The Blue Devils recently defeated Niagara, 100-42, with all 12 players scoring. They boast a record of nearly 85% wins at home, with Cameron Indoor Stadium being a stronghold for the team.
Coach Scheyer expressed confidence, stating, “Howard has been improving, especially under Coach Kenny Blakeney, who focuses on both basketball skills and personal development.” Blakeney, a Duke alumnus himself, is praised for instilling solid fundamentals and developing players on and off the court.
While Duke enters the matchup as the favored team, they understand that Howard brings competitive spirit and talent. Blakeney’s squad aims to showcase their growth, despite their earlier struggles, aiming for a stronger performance against a top-ranked opponent.
The matchup promises excitement as both teams are driven to prove themselves, and Duke fans will expect a strong showing at home.
