Flames Begin Five-Game Road Trip Against Canucks in Vancouver
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Calgary Flames kick off a five-game road trip tonight against the Vancouver Canucks at 7 p.m. MT at Rogers Arena. The Flames are coming off a hard-fought 3-2 shootout victory against the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
Calgary started strong in that game, with early contributions from Matt Coronato, who scored the first goal, and Nazem Kadri, who clinched the shootout win. Goaltender Devin Cooley made a string of impressive saves, including a highlight-reel stop in the second period.
“I liked our game pretty much for the full 60 minutes,” Flames Head Coach Ryan Huska said after the victory. “As the night went on, I thought we were pretty good 5-on-5, and our special teams were excellent.”
The Flames have begun to find their rhythm after a challenging October, showing promise in the month of November with a record of 5-5-1 over their last 11 games. “It’s a good night for a lot of guys,” Huska said about the team’s recent performance against Dallas.
Tonight’s game in Vancouver gives Calgary another chance to build momentum as they face a Canucks team that has struggled recently, winning only one of their last six games. Vancouver is coming off a loss to Dallas, where they could not overcome a late push from the opposition.
Vancouver’s top scorers, Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes, share the team lead with 20 points each. However, the Canucks will be without starting goaltender Thatcher Demko, who is on injured reserve. Kevin Lankinen is expected to be in net tonight.
In their previous meeting earlier this season, the Canucks defeated the Flames 5-1 at home. After tonight’s game, the two teams will meet again in Calgary on March 28.
Fans are expected to pack Rogers Arena as the Canucks aim to shake off their recent struggles and claim victory over a rival team that is also looking to climb out of the league standings.
