LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Clippers will take on the Los Angeles Lakers in a highly anticipated NBA Cup matchup on Tuesday night. The Clippers, struggling with a 5-12 record, hope to bounce back after losing ten of their last twelve games. The Lakers, bolstered by the return of LeBron James, sit at 12-4, aiming for their fifth consecutive victory.

James Harden, the Clippers’ star guard, is looking to continue his scoring streak, averaging 33.6 points over the last eight games, including a franchise-record 55 points against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. “Making the right decision,” Harden said about his scoring, adding, “Yeah, it’s just that simple.” However, he experienced a downturn in their previous game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring only 19 points.

Despite Harden’s scoring ability, the Clippers face challenges, particularly with injuries. Kawhi Leonard recently returned after a ten-game absence, providing a much-needed boost by scoring 20 points against the Cavs.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have found renewed energy after James returned from sciatica, leading the team to two wins against the Utah Jazz. In those games, he averaged 14 points, 10 assists, and 4.5 rebounds. Luka Doncic has also stepped up, leading the league in scoring with 34.5 points per game and providing 8.9 assists and 8.8 rebounds.

“We have each other’s back. Great teams gotta find a way to win,” Doncic stated after the Jazz games. Coach JJ Redick expressed concern over their shooting, noting, “We’re literally one of the worst shooting teams in the NBA right now.”

Redick is optimistic, however, with James confident that “it won’t last” and the team will correct their shooting issues soon. Meanwhile, Clippers coach Tyronn Lue emphasized building consistency, saying, “If we just continue to stack days the right way, we’ll be a good team.”

The matchup marks the beginning of a four-game series between the two teams, following the Lakers’ 3-1 advantage last season.
