San Jose Earthquakes Open Tryouts

SALINAS, Calif. — Soccer players packed the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex as the San Jose Earthquakes held open tryouts for their MLS Next Pro second team, The Town FC, on November 24, 2025. Many aspiring players hoped to secure a spot that could lead them to the main Earthquakes squad.

The day featured two intense 50-minute matches. Participants faced immense pressure as they demonstrated their skills and athleticism on the field.

Shea Salinas, a respected legend of the Earthquakes, oversaw the tryouts. He focused on every detail, providing insights drawn from his extensive experience. Salinas is passionate about creating opportunities for young athletes.

“I visit a lot of schools and ask kids, ‘Who here wants to be a professional soccer player?’ and 90% of them raise their hand. So giving a pathway, an opportunity for those kids is really important,” Salinas explained.

He reflected on his own journey, recalling moments of doubt and affirmation. “It’s the little times when you play here and there, and someone picks you up and they’re like, ‘Wow, you got talent.’ And then you kind of question yourself. It’s a journey of self-discovery,” he shared.

As the tryouts concluded, standout performers were informed they would receive invitations to an exclusive combine scheduled for December, hosted by The Town FC. This event represents a significant opportunity for promising players aspiring for professional soccer careers.
