América and Monterrey Set for Thrilling Liguilla Quarterfinal Clash
Monterrey, Mexico – America and Monterrey will face off in a high-stakes Liguilla quarterfinal match starting Wednesday, November 26, at 9:05 PM local time.
America enters the matchup as the defending champions, eager to reclaim their dominance in Mexican football after losing their title last season. They finished the regular season in fifth place, boasting a record of 10 wins, four draws, and three losses for a total of 31 points, making them one of the league’s best offenses.
On the other hand, Monterrey finished the regular season in a stronger fourth position, just three points ahead of America. Despite a solid start, America struggled with injuries towards the season’s end, leaving some key players absent.
“We know we need to take advantage of our home game,” said Monterrey head coach Domenec Torrent. “Every goal counts, especially in a two-legged format.”
Monterrey will rely on veteran players like Sergio Ramos and Sergio Canales. Ramos, in particular, is looking to make a significant impact after missing crucial matches due to injury earlier in the season. Canales has emerged as a standout performer, netting nine goals in the current tournament.
In the last five encounters between these teams, America has celebrated victory twice, while Monterrey has secured one win along with two draws. Their last meeting saw America lift the trophy during the Apertura 2024 final.
“We are ready for this challenge,” stated America’s coach André Jardine. “It’s time to show our true potential.”
The return leg will take place Saturday, November 29, at 5 PM at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes.
