Anaconda Remake Cast Jack Black Paul Rudd

A remake of the cult horror classic ‘Anaconda’ is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2025, featuring Jack Black and Paul Rudd in leading roles. This new version leans more towards comedy compared to the original film from the 1990s.

Sony Pictures, the studio behind the release, is following a similar strategy they used for their successful 2017 film ‘Jumanji.’ That film, also a comedic remake from the ’90s, had a strong holiday performance, earning $36.1 million in its first three days and $71.9 million over the five-day holiday frame. The sequel, ‘Jumanji: The Next Level,’ surpassed expectations in 2019 with a $59.2 million opening over the weekend before Christmas.

Unlike ‘Jumanji,’ the ‘Anaconda’ remake does not have many direct comparisons among Christmas weekend releases, which are often dominated by historical dramas or musical biopics. Recent examples include ‘The Boys in the Boat’ and ‘The Color Purple.’

Analysts project a three-day opening of $20 million to $30 million for ‘Anaconda,’ positioning it alongside ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ ‘Nosferatu,’ and ‘Sing 2,’ which opened on similar weekends in previous years.

When the first ‘Jumanji’ came out in December 2017, it competed against ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi,’ which had a whopping opening of $220 million. ‘Anaconda’ will also face competition during its release window, as it is expected to contend with a major film that is projected to earn between $100 million and $130 million in its second weekend.

As of November 21, tracking estimates have shown some downward movement for competing films that could affect overall box office totals for ‘Anaconda.’
