Trump Attacks Media Over Age Article, Calls Journalist ‘Enemy of the People’
Washington, D.C. — Former President Donald Trump criticized the New York Times and its White House correspondent Katie Rogers on November 26, 2025, after the paper published an article discussing his declining public appearances and age.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump, who is 79 years old, called the newspaper a “cheap rag” and labeled Rogers as “an enemy of the people.” He accused the Times of publishing a story that claimed he was “less energetic,” insisting that the facts contradict this assertion.
The article highlighted that Trump’s public appearances have decreased by 39% between his inauguration on January 20 and November 25, compared to the same period during his first term from 2017 to 2021. It also noted that his official duties now begin later in the day and that he has made fewer domestic trips while increasing international engagements.
As the oldest president to assume office, Trump has been keen to showcase his vitality in contrast to President Joe Biden. He has pointed out Biden’s declining energy levels and tendency to avoid media interaction. Additionally, Trump’s health has come under scrutiny—he was seen in public with a bruise on his hand and swollen ankles. He appeared to doze off briefly during a recent Oval Office event.
In early October, Trump’s health assessment claimed he is in “exceptional health,” but concerns arose after he revealed undergoing an MRI, an unusual procedure for a routine medical check-up, without providing further details.
The New York Times responded to Trump’s insults by defending its journalist, stating that her reporting exemplifies how a free and independent press aids Americans in understanding their government and its leaders. The Times also emphasized that they would not yield to such intimidation tactics.
Trump’s aggressive rhetoric towards journalists, particularly women, has been noted. Earlier this year, he insulted a Bloomberg reporter aboard Air Force One, calling her a “pig.” He has frequently targeted the New York Times, resorting to insults and legal threats against outlets he perceives as hostile.
