MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s status remains uncertain ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks‘ NBA Cup clash with the Miami Heat on Wednesday night. The Bucks announced on Tuesday that the star forward is questionable for the game, having missed the last three due to a left adductor strain he sustained on Nov. 17 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Antetokounmpo, a two-time MVP, experienced a disappointing loss when he departed early from the game against the Cavaliers, contributing to the Bucks’ ongoing struggles. Since his injury, Milwaukee has lost five consecutive games, highlighting the team’s reliance on their star player.

Head coach Doc Rivers confirmed on Tuesday that the franchise is weighing the risks of rushing Antetokounmpo back too soon. “You gotta be careful with that because we want him to be back,” Rivers said, noting the complexities involved with recovery from such strains. “We’ve learned that taking too much time off can be detrimental, but you also can’t overexert yourself.”

Initially expected to be out for one to two weeks, Antetokounmpo’s early potential return could significantly impact a struggling Bucks roster. With an impressive offensive rating of 123.5 when he plays, the Bucks’ performance has dipped to a league-low 102.1 without him on the court.

In his absence, guard Ryan Rollins has stepped up, averaging 22 points per game over the last three contests. “It’s kind of tough because a lot of our sets run through Giannis,” Rollins said. “We just have to keep playing aggressively and find ways to score.”

The Bucks will finalize Antetokounmpo’s status prior to the 6:30 p.m. CT tip-off against the Heat, who boast a five-game winning streak and have been showcasing their strong offensive and defensive play.
