Truck Crash Seekonk School

SEEKONK, Mass. (WJAR) — A driver lost control of a truck in the parking lot of Mildred H. Aitken Elementary School on Monday afternoon, colliding with several parked vehicles just moments before students were set to be dismissed.

No children were injured, but several parents waiting to pick up their kids reported injuries, according to witnesses.

Larry McKinnon, a grandfather at the scene, described the incident. “I was stunned,” he said. “All of a sudden this flash and I saw it. I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’ Nobody should be driving this fast.”

Photos shared with NBC 10 show extensive damage to at least eight vehicles, with debris scattered across the parking lot. McKinnon referred to the SUV involved as “a tank,” identifying it as one of Cadillac’s largest models. “The destruction was brutal,” he added. “If parents were in the cars, they got hurt.”

One parent claimed the driver was speeding at around 75 mph and recounted her near-miss with the truck, saying she “saw her life flash before her eyes.” She shared her relief that no children were harmed.

Another parent described the driver, a woman in her 60s, as “shooken up and very apologetic.” The parent speculated that the truck may have slipped out of neutral before rolling backward approximately 8 to 10 feet. Both the driver and a nearby van occupant were unharmed, though shaken.

McKinnon expressed his fear about the timing of the crash. “It was minutes away” from the kids coming outside, he said. “I’m still in a state of shock at what I witnessed.”

As of late Monday night, Seekonk Police and Seekonk Public Schools had not provided any official statements about the incident.
