Good Morning America Celebration Times Square

NEW YORK, NY — ABC News marked its farewell to its longtime studio in Times Square with a lively celebration on Friday. The festivities coincided with the final taping of the flagship show “Good Morning America,” which has been a staple in its old location for 26 years.

Fans and crew gathered at O'Donoghue's, a beloved Irish pub, where the “GMA” team, including Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan, toasted their time in the area. The pub opened its doors two hours early to accommodate the celebration.

During the gathering, the anchors took turns giving heartfelt speeches. George Stephanopoulos expressed his mixed emotions, stating, “I’m going to miss Times Square. It has been a tremendous neighborhood for all of us the last 20-something years.” His fellow anchor, Robin Roberts, encouraged everyone to look forward to new memories in their new location, saying, “Just think about all the exciting new memories that we’re going to make together.” Strahan added a personal touch, thanking the crew for their loyalty and stating, “We couldn’t replace any of you, so we’re happy that you’re going with us.”

The celebrations also honored Gary Minor, a head stagehand and prop master, who announced his retirement after 37 years with the show, prompting emotional farewells from the team.

As the network transitions to its new studio in Hudson Square, there are plans for filming throughout the neighborhood to engage viewers. Diane Sawyer is set to debut the new space on Monday, with additional guests like Marcus Samuelsson and Keke Palmer scheduled for next week.
