Absentia Surges on Netflix, Thrilling Viewers Old and New
LOS GATOS, California – A nearly decade-old series has unexpectedly captured the hearts of Netflix viewers, climbing rapidly to the number two spot on the streaming giant’s Top 10 shows list. The show, titled Absentia, originally debuted on September 25, 2017, and has seen a resurgence in popularity despite being canceled in May 2021.
Absentia follows the story of FBI special agent Emily Byrne, who disappears while hunting a serial killer in Boston. After being declared dead in absentia, she resurfaces six years later, only to find her past has taken a dramatic turn—her husband has remarried, and she becomes a suspect in a new string of murders.
Fans have taken to social media to express their enthusiasm for the show. One viewer shared, “I’m 25 minutes into Absentia and it might be the greatest show I’ve ever seen.” Another chimed in with, “Absentia is on Netflix and trust me yall must watch it.” A third viewer urged their followers, “GUYYYSSS!! Absentia is on Netflix now. If you haven’t seen the show, go watch it. It will blow your mind.”
Since its return to the streaming service, all three seasons of Absentia are available for binge-watching. The outpouring of online support suggests that audiences feel the series ended too soon.
