Amid high expectations, Akshay Kumar‘s latest film ‘Sarfira‘ hit the big screens with a mix of responses at the box office. The Hindi remake of the popular 2020 Tamil movie ‘Soorarai Pottru‘ recorded a modest opening day collection, showcasing a slow start with an estimated earning of around Rs 2.40 crore in India.

The day saw ‘Sarfira’ competing with the much-anticipated release of ‘Indian 2‘, starring Kamal Haasan, which raked in a substantial Rs 26 crore nett on its opening day in India. The Hindi version of ‘Indian 2’ also made an impressive mark by gathering around Rs 1.25 crore, adding pressure on ‘Sarfira’ at the box office.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, who directed the original film as well, ‘Sarfira’ features a stellar cast including Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal, Seema Biswas, and a guest appearance by Suriya. The movie intricately narrates the inspiring journey of Captain Gopinath, the visionary behind India’s pioneering low-cost airline.

Akshay Kumar, amidst a string of recent box office disappointments with films like ‘Selfiee‘, ‘Ram Setu‘, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan‘, and ‘Mission Raniganj‘, hoped to steer his box office numbers with ‘Sarfira’. However, the opening day figures place ‘Sarfira’ amongst his lowest in recent years. The movie falls below the opening day collections of ‘Selfiee’ and ‘Bellbottom’, with respective early earnings of Rs 2.55 crore and Rs 2.75 crore.

‘Sarfira’ portrays Akshay Kumar in a compelling role of an underdog, challenging societal norms in the aviation industry within the world of startups. The film promises an emotional and inspiring narrative, coupled with powerhouse performances by the ensemble cast.
