LOS ANGELES, CA – The highly anticipated film ‘Rust’ is set to be released on May 2, 2025, despite the controversy surrounding its production. The film gained notoriety after the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during filming when a live round was discharged from a prop gun held by actor Alec Baldwin.

In the movie, set in 1880s Wyoming, a young boy named Lucas Hollister, played by Patrick Scott McDermott, accidentally kills a rancher and faces execution. In a shocking turn, his grandfather Harland Rust, portrayed by Baldwin, breaks him out of jail, leading them on a desperate escape to Mexico. They must evade a determined U.S. Marshal, Wood Helm, played by Josh Hopkins, and a bounty hunter known as “Preacher,” played by Travis Fimmel.

Following Hutchins’ death, production halted, and Baldwin faced involuntary manslaughter charges, but they were dismissed in July when it was revealed that evidence had not been provided by the prosecution. Meanwhile, the armorer responsible for the firearms on set is serving an 18-month prison sentence.

Instead of abandoning the project, Baldwin and the production team, including producers Grant Hill and Matt DelPiano, opted to complete the film. As a part of the settlement over Hutchins’ death, her husband Matthew Hutchins has become an executive producer, and profits from the film will go directly to their son Andros.

Fans are eager for the film’s release, which will be distributed theatrically by Falling Forward Films and through Video on Demand by Ascending Media Group. Ahead of the premiere, a new trailer has been released, showcasing thrilling scenes from the film.

As the film prepares to debut, Baldwin’s involvement continues to draw attention due to the tragic events that unfolded on set. The producers expressed hopes that ‘Rust’ will provide a compelling watch against the backdrop of its complex history.
