Alex De Minaur Faces Andrey Rublev In Bid For Australian Open Quarterfinal

Alex de Minaur is set to take on Andrey Rublev in a highly anticipated fourth-round match at the Australian Open 2024. The Australian tennis star has already secured three top-10 victories this season and is looking to claim his fourth against the world No.5 player.

De Minaur, who is currently ranked No.10 in the world, has won three out of his last five meetings against Rublev. However, he did suffer a defeat in their most recent encounter in November last year.

The match will be held at the prestigious Rod Laver Arena, and De Minaur expressed his desire to break the fourth-round barrier and advance to his first quarterfinal at his home Grand Slam. He acknowledged Rublev’s powerful forehand and noted that his game plan would revolve around limiting Rublev’s opportunities to unleash his powerful shots.

Apart from De Minaur, there will be a total of 25 Australian players competing on day eight of the Australian Open, including the number one ranked women’s player, Storm Hunter. Hunter will feature in both women’s and mixed doubles matches.

The Australian tennis legacy continues with the debut of Cruz Hewitt, the son of former world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt, in the boys’ singles competition. Additionally, veterans Mark Philippoussis, Alicia Molik, and Casey Dellacqua will compete in the legends’ doubles event.

The matches will take place across various courts, including Margaret Court Arena, Kia Arena, and Rod Laver Arena. Tennis fans in Australia can catch the action live on the Nine Network and Stan Sport, starting from 11 am AEDT.
