Alexander Ovechkin Leads Capitals To Victory Over Canucks With 19th Goal Of The Season

Alexander Ovechkin scored his 19th goal of the season, guiding the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

Ovechkin now has a total of 841 goals, putting him 54 goals away from Wayne Gretzky‘s all-time record.

Tom Wilson netted the other goal for the Capitals, who are now just one point shy of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Brock Boeser responded for the Canucks with a goal of his own.

Goalie Charlie Lindgren made 21 saves for the Capitals, narrowly edging out Casey DeSmith of the Canucks with 20 saves.

Vancouver remains atop the Western Conference, leading the Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche by a single point.

Capitals’ right-winger T.J. Oshie marked his 1000th regular season NHL game in this matchup.

The 37-year-old American was drafted 24th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2005 and played a key role in Washington’s Stanley Cup win in 2018.

The Canucks will continue their nine-game homestand against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, while the Capitals will conclude their five-game road trip in Calgary on Monday.
