Dr. BR Ambedkar’s Impact on Indian Society Honored on His Birth Anniversary
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar‘s indelible impact on Indian society and his relentless efforts toward social justice and equality were commemorated on his birth anniversary, celebrated on April 14 as Bhim Jayanti across India. Born in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh in 1891, Dr. Ambedkar played a pivotal role in the Constitution Drafting Committee for independent India, leaving a lasting legacy in the country’s governance.
Belonging to the Mahar caste, considered untouchable in Hinduism, Dr. Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism in Maharashtra‘s Nagpur marked a significant shift in his advocacy against social evils such as untouchability. His autobiographical work, ‘Waiting For A Visa’, narrates the struggles he faced due to his caste, shedding light on the realities of discrimination.
