AMC’s Dark Winds Debuts Strongly as Season 3 Launches

SANTA FE, New Mexico — AMC‘s hit series Dark Winds has made a powerful comeback with its Season 3 premiere, attracting 2.2 million viewers within the first three days of its release. This impressive viewership marks an increase of over 50 percent compared to the Season 2 premiere, setting a positive tone for the future of the show.
According to AMC, the latest season has also seen subscriber acquisition double from the previous season, indicating strong growth for the series. As filming for Season 4 begins this month, producers are optimistic about the show’s trajectory.
“We are so proud of this series and grateful for the response from fans and critics to the storytelling, the performances, and the authenticity that comes through in every frame,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “We knew Dark Winds had all the ingredients to become another important franchise for AMC, but for Season 3 to attract more than 2.2 million premiere night viewers and receive critical acclaim, including a third straight 100-point score on Rotten Tomatoes, is truly remarkable.
The storyline of Season 3 resumes six months after the conclusion of Season 2, focusing on detectives Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) as they work to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of two boys, signaled only by an abandoned bicycle and a blood-stained patch of ground.
In a parallel narrative, Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) struggles to adjust to her new life as a Border Patrol agent, only to stumble upon a conspiracy concerning human and drug smuggling with far-reaching consequences.
New guest stars joining the cast this season include Jenna Elfman as FBI Special Agent Sylvia Washington, Bruce Greenwood as Tom Spenser, and Raoul Max Trujillo as Budge, among others. A. Martinez will reprise his role as Scarborough Police Department Acting Chief Gordo Sena.
Based on the book series by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds is created by Graham Roland, with John Wirth serving as the showrunner. The executive production team includes Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Vince Gerardis, and Anne Hillerman.
