América Aims for Fourth Consecutive Title as Playoffs Approach

Ciudad de México, México — Club América is poised to chase its fourth consecutive championship as the Liga MX playoffs approach. The team, under the guidance of coach André Jardine, looks to secure a strong finish in the regular season against Mazatlán FC on April 19, 2025.
Having recently claimed victories in the Apertura 2023 and Clausura 2024, as well as lifting the Champions Cup by defeating Columbus Crew, América enters the game in solid form despite a recent setback. After a narrow 1-0 defeat against Monterrey, the team requires just a draw in the upcoming match to secure a playoff spot.
“We need to focus on our game and recover from our injuries to ensure we finish strong,” said Jardine in a pre-match briefing. The team faces challenges as key players Brian Rodríguez and Diego Valdés suffered muscle injuries in their last encounter.
Currently, América sits in third place in the Liga MX standings with 31 points, just behind Cruz Azul and Toluca. A win against Mazatlán could elevate them to the second position, further solidifying their playoff prospects. Historically, América has dominated the matchups against Mazatlán, with seven wins out of nine, leaving Mazatlán with one victory and one draw.
Mazatlán, conversely, faces elimination after last week’s loss to Tijuana, which ended their hopes of making the playoffs. With only 17 points, every game is critical as they prepare to face a formidable América squad.
The anticipated starting eleven for América includes: Luis Malagón; Kevin Álvarez, Israel Reyes, Ramón Juárez, Cristian Calderón; Jonathan dos Santos, Erick Sánchez; Alejandro Zendejas, Álvaro Fidalgo; Víctor Dávila and Rodrigo Aguirre. Meanwhile, Mazatlán will look to bounce back with an underdog spirit against the league’s prestigious team as they close out their season.
The match will take place at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 PM local time. Fans can catch the live broadcast on Canal 5 and TUDN in Mexico, and via TUDN USA in the United States. As both teams gear up for the last encounter of the regular season, the stakes are high for América to secure their legacy and for Mazatlán to end the season on a high note.
