America’s Thanksgiving Parade 2024: Detroit Prepares for Historic 98th Edition
The 98th annual America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit is set to kick off on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2024. This iconic event, presented by Gardner-White, promises to be a spectacular display of floats, balloons, and marching bands along a three-mile route on Woodward Avenue from Kirby to Congress.
The parade, which is expected to attract nearly a million spectators, features 28 floats, including six new ones. One of the new floats is from the Hudson Weber Foundation, which is anticipated to be a crowd favorite, especially with the inclusion of the iconic Hudson building design.
Tony Michaels, CEO of the Parade Company, highlighted the immense effort and dedication that goes into organizing this event. Michaels noted the anxiety but also the excitement of ensuring everything is perfect for the large audience. The parade is a free event, but spectators are advised to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot.
In addition to the floats, the parade will include balloons and various marching bands, making it a vibrant and entertaining experience for families and spectators of all ages. Road closures will be in effect, particularly along West Grand Boulevard from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., to accommodate the event.
Detroiters have already begun making the most of the event by getting a sneak peek of the floats the night before, a tradition that many families enjoy. The behind-the-scenes preparations, including float construction and band practices, have been extensive, showcasing the community’s commitment to this beloved tradition.
