Amitabh Bachchan’s Vintage Wedding Invitation Card Goes Viral
The remarkable love story of Indian film icons Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan remains a source of inspiration and admiration across generations. As the veteran actor approaches his 82nd birthday, a nostalgic artifact from their marriage has surfaced, capturing the attention of fans worldwide. A vintage 1973 wedding invitation card is currently making waves on social media.
The surprise unveiling of the wedding card was orchestrated by none other than Aamir Khan, a celebrated Bollywood actor and self-proclaimed fan of Amitabh Bachchan. The revered document was presented during an episode of the television show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati,’ wherein Aamir Khan participated alongside his son, Junaid Khan. This televised moment took place on the set of the quiz show, a popular Indian program hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.
During the episode, Aamir Khan humorously quizzed Amitabh Bachchan about his wedding date. Displaying a fond smile, Amitabh promptly responded with “June 3, 1973,” the day when he and Jaya Bachchan tied the knot. The revelation of the wedding card provided an additional layer of authenticity to Aamir’s admiration, earning applause from the audience.
The heirloom piece is distinguished by its sepia tones, and its design reflects an elegance synonymous with the Bachchans. The card carries a heartfelt message from Amitabh’s parents, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his wife, Teji Bachchan. The message acknowledges the union of Amitabh and Jaya, daughter of Taroon Coomar Bhaduri, solemnized in Bombay on that historic date.
Adding an element of spiritual reverence, the invitation card also includes a traditional quote from the ‘Ramcharitmanas‘, an ancient Indian text, which reads: “Jab te ram byahi ghar aaye, nit nav mangal modh badhaye.” The viral spread of the card has evoked nostalgic sentiments among fans who fondly recall the couple’s wedding day images, marked by simplicity and grace.
The images from that day depict Jaya Bachchan in a conventional red bridal ensemble, complemented with a ‘mathapatti’ and bindi, epitomizing the quintessential Indian bride. In contrast, Amitabh Bachchan donned an ornate beige sherwani, exuding elegance. The wedding invitation and related images underscore the couple’s enduring partnership, both professionally and personally.
