Angels Designate Shaun Anderson for Assignment, Promote Caden Dana

ANAHEIM, California – The Los Angeles Angels announced Saturday that they have designated right-hander Shaun Anderson for assignment and recalled fellow right-hander Caden Dana from Triple-A Salt Lake. This move comes as the Angels aim to strengthen their bullpen amid challenges with injuries.
Anderson, 30, had a rough start to the season, posting a 6.30 ERA in 10 innings of work. He recently earned a win against the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he allowed one earned run over 2 2/3 innings while striking out three batters. Despite this, the decision to designate him seems influenced by the need for fresher arms in the bullpen after the team faced injuries to key players.
Meanwhile, Dana, 21, is a standout prospect ranked as the Angels’ No. 2 by MLB Pipeline. He brings optimism to the roster, having achieved a 2.52 ERA in 135 2/3 innings last season at Double-A Rocket City but struggled at Triple-A with a 5.21 ERA in eight starts this year. Manager Ron Washington stated that Dana would be utilized as a long reliever, providing much-needed depth to the Angels’ pitching rotation.
The Angels are currently in a competitive stretch, having won eight consecutive games, which puts them only 1.5 games out of a playoff position. This recent success may warrant aggressive decisions regarding player promotions as the team aims to capitalize on their momentum.
Washington emphasized that the club requires length from their pitchers, noting, “If something happens in the second inning, he could take the game all the way to the end.” As Dana steps up, the Angels hope that he can help solidify their pitching efforts moving forward.
