Anthony Lozano Red Card Santos Laguna Clausura 2025

Anthony ‘Choco’ Lozano’s Clausura 2025 campaign with Santos Laguna got off to a disastrous start as the Honduran forward was sent off in a 0-1 loss to Guadalajara on Saturday. The match, held at the Estadio Akron, marked a disappointing debut for new Santos Laguna coach Fernando Ortiz.

Lozano, who began the game on the bench, entered the match in the 72nd minute with the score tied 0-0. Just three minutes later, Guadalajara’s Ventura Alvarado scored the game’s only goal. The Honduran international received his first yellow card in the 81st minute for a raised arm in a challenge. His night ended in the 89th minute when he was shown a second yellow for a reckless tackle from behind.

‘It was a difficult start for us,’ said Ortiz after the match. ‘We need to regroup quickly and focus on our next game.’ The red card means Lozano will miss Santos Laguna’s next match against Pachuca on January 20.

The loss continues a troubling trend for Santos Laguna, who finished last in the Apertura 2024 season with just 10 points. Meanwhile, Guadalajara’s victory under new coach Óscar García gives the team momentum heading into their next match.

In other Liga MX action, América opened the season with a 0-1 win over Querétaro, while Toluca defeated Tijuana 2-4. Mazatlán and Juárez played to a 1-1 draw. The Clausura 2025 season continues Sunday with matches featuring Tigres, Cruz Azul, and other league contenders.
