Astros Seek Offensive Spark Against Angels Amid Player Struggles

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Astros are set to face the Los Angeles Angels this weekend at Daikin Park, with lineup adjustments aimed at revitalizing their faltering offense. Catcher Yainer Diaz will return to the starting lineup Friday, batting sixth against Angels right-hander Jack Kochanowicz.
Diaz, however, is experiencing a challenging season so far. He has struggled at the plate, with a hitting line of just 2-for-33 across the Astros’ first 11 games, yielding only one RBI and a single run scored. Despite these difficulties, team management intends to give the 26-year-old a chance to work through his slump based on his strong previous performances.
“He’s a quality player, and we’re confident he’ll find his rhythm,” said Astros manager Dusty Baker regarding Diaz’s current struggles. “He’s proven he can be a key contributor for us.”
The Astros’ offense has been inconsistent, having been unable to score more than three runs in consecutive games so far this season. After a wild week oscillating between a dramatic comeback win and a disheartening blown lead, their record stands at 5-7. The team struggled with a blown 5-0 lead in their recent game against the Seattle Mariners, highlighting their vulnerabilities.
“It’s unsettling when you let a game slip away like that,” added Baker. “However, we need to stay focused on the next series.”
Starting pitcher Hunter Brown has shown promise in his three outings this season, providing some stability for the rotation. Meanwhile, Framber Valdez has exhibited strong performances in two of his three starts. In contrast, the bullpen has raised concerns, especially following Bryan Abreu’s failure to secure two save opportunities recently.
The Angels will not feature pitcher Yusei Kikuchi this series, which could work in the Astros’ favor as they aim to exploit matchups. The absence of star players like Anthony Rendon, sidelined with injuries, may also give the Astros an edge.
“Every game is crucial right now,” said Diaz. “We’re looking to build consistency in our performance and start racking up wins.”
As the teams gear up for their weekend series, the Astros hope to overcome their recent offensive woes, with fans hopeful that the return of players to form will spark a turnaround. The Astros have a short window to regain momentum before heading deeper into the season.
