Atlanta Radio Personality and Comedian Wanda Smith Passes Away at 58
Wanda Smith, a beloved radio personality and comedian, passed away on October 12, just a day after her 58th birthday. Smith was widely known for her role on the popular morning show “Frank Ski and Wanda in the Morning” on Atlanta’s V-103, a position she held since 1997.
Senior Vice President and Market Manager for V-103, Rick Caffey, confirmed the news in a statement posted on Instagram. Caffey expressed the deep sorrow felt by the V-103 family and the broader community, highlighting Smith’s significant impact on the lives of many. “Our hearts are weighing heavier today as we grieve the loss of our beloved Wanda Smith, someone who always made us smile and who was a big part of V-103 for years. Smith’s career extended beyond radio, with notable appearances on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” and BET’s “Comicview,” as well as roles in Tyler Perry’s films “Madea Goes to Jail” and “Madea’s Witness Protection.” Her comedic talent and community service have left a lasting legacy in Atlanta.
In 2018, Smith gained national attention after a viral confrontation with comedian Katt Williams, which led to her temporary termination from the station. Despite this incident, Smith remained a cherished figure in the community, often championing efforts to help those in need behind the scenes.
Wanda Smith is survived by her husband, LaMorris Sellers, and their three children. V-103 paid tribute to her on air on October 13, allowing listeners to share their favorite memories of the comedian.
