Atlético Madrid Aims for Historic 14th Consecutive Win Against Osasuna
Atletico Madrid is on the brink of making history as they face Osasuna in a LaLiga clash on January 12, 2025. A victory would mark their 14th consecutive win across all competitions, a feat never achieved in the club’s 122-year history. Currently, they hold 44 points, one more than Real Madrid, who have already played their 19th match.
Under the guidance of coach Diego Simeone, known as ‘El Cholo,’ Atletico has been in formidable form. The team last achieved 13 consecutive wins in 2012, but their streak was halted by Valencia. This time, they aim to surpass that record against Osasuna, a team that has not won a league match since November 2, 2024, despite advancing in the Copa del Rey.
Osasuna’s coach, Vicente Moreno, has never beaten Simeone in league play, losing all four encounters. However, Osasuna was the last team to defeat Atletico at the Metropolitano Stadium, doing so in the penultimate match of the previous season. This historical context adds intrigue to the match, as Osasuna seeks to replicate that success.
Atletico enters the game with key players like Jan Oblak and Pablo Barrios returning to the starting lineup, while Thomas Lemar has recovered from injury. Only Jose Gimenez remains sidelined, expected to return next week. The team’s consistent performance has been bolstered by the contributions of Antoine Griezmann and Julian Alvarez, each with 16 goals this season.
Moreno is considering a tactical shift to a 5-4-1 formation to counter Atletico’s attacking prowess. Despite missing Bryan Zaragoza and Iker Munoz, Osasuna hopes to secure a morale-boosting victory. For Atletico, a win would not only set a new club record but also solidify their position as serious title contenders, challenging the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona in recent years.
