April 9, 2025, Santa Cruz, Calif. — Australian guard Taran Armstrong has made a significant impact in his debut season with the G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors, solidifying his place as a promising talent in American basketball. The 21-year-old was signed to a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors after showcasing his skills throughout a challenging season.

Despite facing injury setbacks, Armstrong’s vision, passing ability, and scoring talent have drawn attention since joining the Warriors in March. He made his first appearance on March 8 against the Wisconsin Herd, where he played 23 minutes off the bench. Though he did not score in that game, he recorded seven assists, demonstrating his playmaking capabilities and setting the stage for his growing role on the team.

Armstrong followed up his debut with a stronger performance against the Capitanes, scoring 10 points while contributing six rebounds and four assists. His versatility on the court has made a notable difference, with Santa Cruz visibly improving their offensive productivity since his addition. His season-high performance came against the Texas Legends, where he achieved 15 points and 10 assists, further establishing his place in the rotation.

“Taran has been a game-changer for us,” said Warriors head coach. “His ability to create opportunities for others while also scoring has lifted the team’s overall performance.”

As the season progressed, Armstrong earned a spot in the starting lineup, appearing in several key games, including the elimination final against the Valley Suns. His performance, where he scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out eight assists, proved that he can compete at a high level, even when the stakes are high.

Armstrong finished the season averaging 11.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game, shooting 51 percent from the field. His consistent output and effectiveness have created much anticipation for his potential future within the NBA with the Golden State Warriors, a team known for its competitive roster.

“Playing in the G League has been an incredible experience for me,” Armstrong said. “I’ve learned so much in such a short time, and I am eager to keep improving and making an impact.”

With his strong showing in the G League, Armstrong appears poised to transition successfully to higher levels of competition, making him a player to watch as he continues his development. The Warriors organization has expressed optimism about his trajectory, which now hinges on how well he adapts in the offseason as he aims to make the final roster for the 2025-26 NBA season.
