AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning on North Lamar Boulevard.

Officers responded to urgent welfare check calls around 4:40 a.m., arriving at the scene near Parmer Lane and Interstate 35 to find a man lying on the ground with serious injuries. First responders from the Austin-Travis County EMS attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead shortly after at approximately 5 a.m.

This incident marks Austin’s 14th homicide of the year. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area for potential evidence. They believe the incident to be isolated with no continuing threat to the public.

“We are treating this matter with utmost priority and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward,” said an APD spokesperson.

Authorities have established two hotlines for tips: the APD Homicide tipline at 512-974-8477 and the Crime Stoppers line at 512-472-8477. The police are asking the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.

As the investigation unfolds, APD reminds residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. Those with information about the incident are encouraged to share what they know, which may help bring closure to the victim’s family.
