Avalanche End Regular Season with Crucial Road Game Against Ducks

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Colorado Avalanche are set to conclude their 2024-25 regular season on the road against the Anaheim Ducks on April 13, 2025, in a key matchup that could influence playoff standings. The game will begin at 8 p.m. MT at the Honda Center and will be broadcast live on ESPN and Altitude Sports Radio (92.5 FM).
This clash marks the third and final meeting of the season between the two clubs, with Colorado having secured victories in both previous matchups, winning 4-3 in overtime in Denver on October 18 and 4-2 in Anaheim on December 20.
The Avalanche enter the game with a record of 48-29-4 after a tough 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on April 12. Despite a strong effort from Brock Nelson, who recorded two goals, including the 300th of his career, the Avalanche could not overcome a two-goal deficit at Crypto.com Arena. The Kings jumped ahead early with goals from Quinton Byfield and Kevin Fiala, and while the Avalanche fought back, they fell short.
“We played with good detail,” Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar commented after the loss. “Regardless of who was in the lineup tonight, I liked the way we competed.”
Nelson is shining as a key contributor for the Avalanche, now with 26 goals and 30 assists this season. His notable performance places him fourth in team scoring, highlighting the importance of his play heading into the playoffs. Martin Necas has also been a standout this season, tying for 16th in the NHL with 55 assists, contributing significantly to Colorado’s offensive output.
Meanwhile, the Ducks, who hold a record of 35-36-8, are coming off a disappointing 6-1 defeat against the Kings in their last outing. This loss further complicates Anaheim’s playoff aspirations as they prepare to face Colorado.
The Ducks’ Troy Terry leads the team with 53 points, showcasing his offensive talent alongside teammates Mason McTavish and Frank Vatrano, both tied for the team lead in goals with 21 each.
With the Avalanche’s strong season record against the Ducks and their ability to clinch victories in essential games, the stakes are high as both teams look to end their seasons on a winning note. The matchup is critical for playoff positioning, and anticipation builds around whether Colorado can maintain their winning streak or if Anaheim will rise to the occasion.
The Avalanche have been resilient this season, using an unprecedented 49 players, matching a franchise record, and showcasing their depth. As they gear up for the playoffs, each game is a valuable opportunity for tuning up their strategies and solidifying team chemistry.
