Baltimore Orioles Designate Kyle Gibson for Assignment After Poor Performance

Baltimore, MD – The Baltimore Orioles have announced they will designate pitcher Kyle Gibson for assignment following a disappointing performance against the Washington Nationals on Saturday.
In the first inning, Gibson was pulled from the game after allowing six earned runs, leaving the Orioles with no chance of a comeback. This outing added to an already challenging season for the team, managed by Mike Elias.
The veteran right-hander, who was signed to a one-year, $5.25 million contract late in the spring, has struggled significantly this season. His earned run average (ERA) stands at 16.78, and he has a record of 0-3 across four starts. Gibson’s performance has raised concerns about his ability to contribute effectively to the team.
Due to the ongoing injury issues with fellow pitchers Grayson Rodriguez and Zach Eflin, Gibson’s struggles had thrown the team’s pitching plans into disarray. As a result, the Orioles opted to recall Kade Strowd from Triple-A Norfolk as part of the team’s restructuring efforts.
This is Strowd’s second stint with the Orioles this season. He was called up on April 28 but has yet to see action in an MLB game, making his future debut a highly anticipated event for the team.
If Gibson clears waivers, it is possible he will accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk as the team looks to navigate through their pitching woes.
