Baltimore Ravens Sign Derrick Henry To Bolster Running Back Corps

The Baltimore Ravens have secured a significant addition to their running back roster with the acquisition of Derrick Henry, a two-time NFL rushing champion, in a two-year deal worth up to $20 million. The deal, with $9 million guaranteed, is set to be finalized once the new NFL league year commences.

Henry, who turned 30 in January, joins the Ravens from the Tennessee Titans, where he carved out an illustrious career that includes a 2,027-yard rushing season in 2020. His arrival fills a void in the Ravens’ running back group, left by the departures of Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins, with Edwards moving on to the Los Angeles Chargers.

The four-time Pro Bowler led the NFL in 2023 with 280 rushing attempts and ranked second in total rushing yards at 1,167. Having spent his entire career with the Titans up to this point, Henry leaves Tennessee ranked second in franchise history with 9,502 rushing yards, behind only Eddie George.

With Henry’s prowess in the backfield, the Ravens, who boasted the league’s top regular-season record in 2023, bolster their offensive arsenal alongside reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. The deal with Henry comes as the Ravens negotiate several other key player contracts, including those of defensive tackle Justin Madubuike, Patrick Queen, Jadeveon Clowney, Kyle Van Noy, and Odell Beckham Jr.

Running backs have struggled to secure lucrative contracts in recent times, with Henry being among the few to secure a substantial deal. The Ravens’ move to sign Henry signals their commitment to enhancing their running game, potentially pairing him with the promising rookie Keaton Mitchell, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in December.

Overall, the acquisition of Henry enhances the Ravens’ chances of maintaining their offensive dominance and further solidifies their position as a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.
