Maha Saptami Bank Holiday India

On October 10, 2023, banks in the Indian states of Tripura, Assam, Nagaland, and West Bengal will remain closed in observance of Maha Saptami, part of the larger Durga Puja festival. This holiday has been declared by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) specifically for these states as part of the regional celebrations of Durga Puja, also known as Dussehra.

Maha Saptami signifies the seventh day of the Durga Puja festival. It marks the commencement of the grand worship, known as Maha Puja, and is considered a pivotal day in the ten-day festival’s calendar. According to Hindu mythology, this day is important as it represents the time when Goddess Durga started her battle against the demon king Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Even with the closure of branches in these specific states, vital banking services like online banking, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), ATMs, and mobile banking applications will continue to operate as usual. Customers are encouraged to utilize these services to manage their financial transactions.

Bank holiday schedules in India can vary significantly across different regions due to the observation of region-specific festivals. Therefore, individuals are advised to consult the detailed list of bank holidays available on the RBI’s official website to prevent any inconvenience when planning a visit to local branches.
