Jon Kay Carol Kirkwood Bbc Breakfast Weather

During Tuesday’s edition of BBC Breakfast, presenter Jon Kay playfully teased weather presenter Carol Kirkwood regarding her optimistic forecast, sparking laughter in the studio. This interaction occurred as Kay and his co-host, Sally Nugent, transitioned to the weather segment led by Kirkwood.

As the camera focused on Kirkwood, viewers were met with an image of a sunny sky, with only a few clouds visible. Kirkwood acknowledged the scene, stating, “Some of us will see some blue skies today, there’s some sunshine around. But, there’s also some showers.”

In her weather update, Kirkwood relayed that parts of the UK would experience heavy rain, gusty winds, and a decrease in temperature. This prompted Kay to express disappointment: “That blue sky was a complete con at the beginning of the weather, wasn’t it?” he quipped.

Sally Nugent added humor to the banter, commenting, “Oh, it’s time for the big duvets Carol!” Kirkwood, responding with light-hearted energy, defended her forecast, “No! No, it wasn’t at all Jon, sunshine and showers. You know what it’s like with showers, we won’t all see them.”

The exchange continued, with Kay joking that they made sure to “read the fine print” back in the studio. The segment was part of Kirkwood’s return to BBC Breakfast after a brief absence on Monday, during which Matt Taylor covered her role.

Away from the studio, Kirkwood had recently visited Scotland, returning to her childhood roots. She shared her travel experiences on Twitter, posting a photograph of her journey on the Jacobite steam train – a trip notable for crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct, famously featured in the Harry Potter films. “Such a treat travelling to Mallaig on The Jacobite steam train @westcoastrail. Never tire of this,” Kirkwood wrote, highlighting her personal connection as her grandfather helped build the viaduct.

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One every weekday starting at 6 am.
