Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler, Harshit Rana, faces financial penalty over his send-off celebration towards Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s Mayank Agarwal in the recent IPL match. Rana’s action caught the attention of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

According to BCCI’s statement, Rana has been fined 60 percent of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The incident involved two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the code.

Rana, known for his fiery performance on the field, had blown a flying kiss towards Mayank after dismissing him earlier in the innings. This led to criticism from fans and former cricketers, including Sunil Gavaskar, who expressed disappointment over the young bowler’s actions.

Despite the controversy, Rana played a crucial role in KKR’s narrow four-run victory against SRH. Defending 13 runs in the final over, he showed exceptional composure by taking two crucial wickets and securing the win for his team.

Former India captain, Sunil Gavaskar, emphasized the need for sportsmanship in cricket and criticized Rana’s gesture towards the opposition player. Gavaskar highlighted the importance of respecting the spirit of the game and avoiding unnecessary on-field theatrics.

The intense finish to the match, with Rana’s heroics in the final over, added to the excitement of the IPL season opener for KKR. The young pacer’s performance showcased his potential and ability to thrive under pressure in high-stakes situations.
