Beloved Nova Scotia Radio Host Rick Howe Dies At 69

Rick Howe, a beloved Nova Scotia radio host, has passed away at the age of 69.

Howe, known for his nearly 50-year career as a reporter and broadcaster, was best-known for hosting "The Hotline" on CJCH and "The Rick Howe Show" on CityNews 95.7, formerly known as News 95.7.

He recently retired in 2021 and released his book: "[Book Title]."

During a recent interview promoting the book, Howe mentioned that he was doing well following a health struggle.

Howe was recognized for his vibrant Hawaiian shirts and trademark ball cap. He was married to another well-known local broadcaster, former CTV and CBC reporter Yvonne Colbert.

Steve Murphy, a long-time friend and fellow broadcaster, had known Howe since 1977. He described Howe as an original, outspoken, and often controversial personality who was always kind.

Canada's health and justice ministers, along with many others, are criticizing Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's proposed restrictions on transgender youth, viewing them as political points targeting a vulnerable minority. They are considering how to respond to this situation.

A recent Angus Reid survey highlights that a significant number of Canadians lack a financial cushion. The survey found that a majority of respondents under 55 would struggle to handle an unexpected expense of more than $1,000.
