The Benfica women’s roller hockey team secured a victory against Stuart Massamá, with a 6-4 win in the final of the Professor João Campelo Cup. The match took place at the Pavilhão João Villaret on October 6, 2024. “It was a hard-fought match, and we are thrilled with the result,” said a Benfica representative.

The lineup for Benfica included Maria Vieira, Marlene Sousa, Aimée Blackman, Beatriz Figueiredo, and Rita Batista. The substitutes were Alice Vicente, Filipa Gonçalves, and Maria Sofia Silva, under the guidance of coach Paulo Almeida. “The team’s performance was outstanding, and they deserved this win,” Almeida commented.

For Stuart Massamá, the starting team was composed of Inês Caldeira, Diana Pinto, Beatriz Alves, Margarida Alves, and Irina Melício, with Maria Duarte, Marta Marujo, Sofia Sardela, and Catarina Pedro as substitutes.

Marlene Sousa and Maria Sofia Silva also added to the score, marking their contributions at 10′ and 19′ respectively. In the second half, Blackman and Silva added further goals, ensuring the team’s victory.

Stuart Massamá’s efforts were marked by goals from Catarina Pedro, Diana Pinto, and Beatriz Alves, though they were unable to surpass Benfica’s lead.

The next challenge for Benfica comes on Saturday, October 12, when they will face Escola Livre in the final four of the Elite Cup. The matches are scheduled to be held at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Odivelas, with the competition concluding on Sunday, October 13.
