Cincinnati Bengals Ja'marr Chase Contract Negotiations

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Cincinnati Bengals are entering a critical offseason as they navigate contract negotiations with star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase. Following a standout 2024 season where he led the league with 127 receptions, 1,708 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns, the Bengals are eager to secure a long-term deal with Chase before he potentially hits free agency next year.

Despite the urgency, sources indicate that the two sides are currently “far apart” in their discussions. ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported that the Bengals have submitted an offer, but substantial gaps remain in the negotiations.

Chase, who has become a centerpiece of the Bengals’ offense and is poised to reset the market for non-quarterbacks, is seeking a contract that reflects his elite performance. Estimates suggest that his next deal could approach $40 million annually, which would position him as the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

In 2024, the Bengals exercised the fifth-year option on Chase’s rookie contract, guaranteeing him a salary of $21.8 million for the 2025 season, but the team recognizes that his on-field contributions merit a more substantial agreement.

Chase’s exceptional 2024 campaign not only featured leading statistics but also illustrious honors; he was a four-time Pro Bowler and earned a spot on the First Team All-Pro. His achievements culminated in him winning the receiving Triple Crown, affirming his status among elite wide receivers.

His recent performance underscores the urgency for the Bengals, whose roster also includes other players requiring attention. Wide receiver Tee Higgins and defensive end Trey Hendrickson are both key players facing contract considerations. Higgins is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, adding to the pressure for Cincinnati as they seek to retain their core talent.

As the league’s new year approaches on March 12, the Bengals are under pressure to finalize their strategy while ensuring they maintain a healthy relationship with quarterback Joe Burrow. Burrow’s confidence in the franchise’s commitment to negotiating with Chase is crucial, given their mutual success in recent seasons.

ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter discussed the stakes, noting, “Clearly, they want him back as they should want him back. He’s as good as any wide receiver in football, and they’re going to want to get that deal done, and I’m going to guess that deal is somewhere around $40 million per year.”

The Bengals’ general position is complicated by their cap strategy; they maintain approximately $46.25 million in available funds, but multiple contract negotiations loom. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the offseason unfolds, waiting to see if the Bengals can bridge the gap with Chase and solidify their roster ahead of what promises to be a defining 2025 season.
