Minnesota Winter Cold Weather Advisory 2025

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for northern Minnesota as dangerously low wind chills plummet to -25° to -35°, according to Minnesota’s Weather Authority and Meteorologist Wren Clair. The advisory, which began Sunday morning, warns of frostbite risks in less than 10 minutes for exposed skin.

Most of central and southern Minnesota, along with western Wisconsin, woke up to temperatures a few degrees below zero. Breezy north winds will make it feel like -5° to -15° throughout the day, with highs struggling to reach the low teens. Sunday’s forecast includes partly cloudy skies and a chance of flurries, mainly in southern Minnesota, before clearing in the afternoon.

‘It’s a cold Sunday forecast with colder morning temperatures compared to yesterday,’ said Wren Clair. ‘Bundle up and stay warm.’

Northern Minnesota is expected to bear the brunt of the cold, with wind chills reaching -30° in some areas. The National Weather Service warns that these conditions are life-threatening, urging residents to limit outdoor exposure and dress in layers.

High temperatures today will trend nearly ten degrees below average, with highs around 14°. The cold snap is expected to persist through midweek, with a slight warming trend bringing temperatures back to seasonal levels in the mid-20s by late next week. No significant snowfall is forecast in the next seven days, though a clipper system may bring light snow later in the week.

Residents are advised to take precautions, including checking on vulnerable neighbors and ensuring pets have adequate shelter. The Minnesota Department of Transportation also reminds drivers to prepare vehicles for extreme cold, including ensuring proper antifreeze levels and carrying emergency kits.
