BJP’s Mukesh Sharma Clinches Victory in Gurgaon Assembly Elections
In the latest assembly elections, Mukesh Sharma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a significant victory in the Gurgaon constituency, defeating independent candidate Naveen Goyal by a margin of 68,045 votes. Congress’s Mohit Grover placed third with 46,947 votes.
Gurgaon is one among the 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana, located within the larger Gurgaon parliamentary constituency. The recent victory marks the continuation of the BJP’s dominance in the region, following their previous successes in the 2014 and 2019 elections. In 2019, BJP candidate Sudhir Singla won with a margin of 81,953 votes.
The assembly elections, held on October 5, saw a voter turnout of 67.90% across Haryana, with Gurgaon reporting a participation rate of 57.96%. This reflects a relatively low turnout compared to the highest district, Sirsa, which reported 75.36%.
Key figures in the election included Dr. Nishant Anand representing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Mohti Grover from Congress, and Mukesh Sharma from the BJP. In an interesting twist, Naveen Goyal, a former BJP member, contested as an independent after the party denied him a ticket.
Haryana’s assembly election landscape featured 1,031 candidates vying for positions, including 101 women and 464 independent candidates. The larger electoral scene showed the BJP leading in 50 seats compared to Congress’s 35, as per early counting trends.
In the Gurgaon district’s other constituencies, BJP candidates maintained their leads. Rao Narbir Singh from Badshahpur, Bimla Chaudhary from Pataudi, and Tejpal Tanwar from Sohna were among those leading their races.
Gurgaon’s literacy rate, according to the 2011 Census, stands at 84.7%, which is the highest in Haryana. The region’s demographics highlight a population of 1,514,432, including 816,690 males and 697,742 females.
The BJP’s success in Haryana reflects its strategic campaigning and the electorate’s endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s policies, according to political analysts. Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar indicated that the victory shows a continued public support for BJP governance.
