Blue Jackets, Red Wings Unveil Unique Uniforms for Historic NHL Stadium Series

COLUMBUS, Ohio / DETROIT, Mich. — The Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings will face off in a historic NHL Stadium Series game at Ohio Stadium on March 1, 2025, with both teams unveiling unique uniforms designed by Fanatics. The game marks the 43rd regular-season outdoor game in NHL history and the first outdoor game for the Blue Jackets.

The uniforms, revealed on January 16, 2025, pay homage to the cultural and historical identities of both cities. The Blue Jackets’ design draws inspiration from the Union Army uniforms, featuring military-like details, a cannon as the primary logo, and Ohio-themed elements, including a buckeye leaf pattern and a state-shaped patch for captain designations. The Red Wings’ uniforms celebrate Detroit’s automotive industry, incorporating speed stripes, a script font inspired by car insignias, and a subtle nod to the team’s octopus mascot.

“The Stadium Series is an opportunity to really take a leap, take a chance, try something different and celebrate local hockey culture,” said Dom Fillion, creative director for Fanatics. The jerseys are available for pre-order at team stores and online.

The Blue Jackets’ uniform includes a cannon logo, a first for the team, and a buckeye leaf pattern inside the collar. The Red Wings’ design features laser-perforated textures mimicking car upholstery and a unique helmet design with a white stripe reminiscent of football helmets. Both jerseys include the “2025 NHL Stadium Series” designation and event crest.

Brian Jennings, NHL senior executive VP for marketing, emphasized the importance of maintaining team identity while incorporating unique elements. “Detroit being an Original Six team, they have very strong feelings, and [owner] Chris Ilitch and the team communicated that to us,” Jennings said.
