Blue Jays Pitcher Erik Swanson Leaves Spring Training Camp After Son’s Accident
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson has departed from the team’s spring training camp following a tragic incident involving his 4-year-old son in Clearwater, Florida.
Toby Swanson was hospitalized in critical condition at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital after being struck by a vehicle at the Opal Sands Resort on 430 S. Gulfview Boulevard.
Authorities from the Clearwater police responded to the scene of the accident, noting that the driver of the 2024 Ford Expedition involved in the incident stayed at the location and cooperated with the investigation.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider expressed gratitude for the swift response of Clearwater first responders and provided an update on Toby’s condition, stating that the young child is now on the path to recovery surrounded by his family.
In a public statement, Schneider emphasized the importance of family, highlighting that Erik Swanson will be taking time away from the team to be with his loved ones during this challenging period.
This marks Swanson’s second season with the Toronto Blue Jays after playing his initial four MLB seasons with the Seattle Mariners.
