Renowned journalist Bob Woodward has released his 23rd book, titled “War,” which delves into the intricate and perilous landscape of global conflicts, particularly focusing on the war in Ukraine and the Middle East. The book, set to be published by Simon & Schuster on October 15, offers a detailed account of the geopolitical tensions and the inner workings of the U.S. administration during these crises.

Woodward, known for his investigative reporting and his role in uncovering the Watergate scandal, reveals in “War” that during the fall of 2022, U.S. intelligence warned of a 50 percent chance that Russian President Vladimir Putin might resort to nuclear weapons as Russian forces were retreating in Ukraine. This intelligence assessment was described as highly alarming, with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin dismissing Putin’s nuclear threats as “very dangerous and unhelpful.”

The book also touches on the complex relationship between former President Donald Trump and Putin. Woodward alleges that Trump sent COVID-19 test machines to Putin during the pandemic, a claim that has been confirmed by a Kremlin spokesman despite Trump’s spokesman denying the story. Additionally, Woodward claims that Trump has held multiple phone calls with Putin since leaving office, further highlighting the contentious nature of their relationship.

Woodward’s work is based on extensive interviews with top administration officials and documents, which he has used to construct a narrative that paints a dire picture of global stability. He quotes President Joe Biden as saying that Putin is unlikely to be routed out of Ukraine without considering the use of tactical nuclear weapons, emphasizing the ongoing threat to global security.

In an interview, Woodward expressed his disdain for Trump’s fitness for office, ranking him at the “very bottom” among the presidents he has chronicled, citing Trump’s self-serving behavior. Woodward also hinted at the possibility of writing a memoir about his extraordinary career but remains uncertain about whether “War” will be his last book.
