Bologna Stages Comeback to Hold Como in Serie A Clash
Bologna faced Como in a highly anticipated Serie A match that marked Como’s return to the competition after a 21-year absence. Despite this being a significant occasion for Como, Bologna managed to equalize the match in a thrilling comeback.
The match began with Como taking an early lead in the fifth minute. Patrick Cutrone’s attempt to send the ball into the box took a deflection off Bologna defender Nicolò Casale, resulting in an own goal. This early advantage set a promising tone for Como, who were eager to start their Serie A campaign on a positive note.
As the first half neared its conclusion, Bologna was presented with an opportunity to level the score when referee Marco Piccinini initially awarded them a penalty for an Alberto Moreno handball. However, after a review, the decision was overturned as the handball had occurred just outside the penalty area.
In the second half, Como extended their lead in the 53rd minute when Cutrone skillfully controlled a through pass, maneuvered past a defender, and delivered a precise shot into the bottom corner of the net. Despite Como’s commanding position, Bologna was not deterred.
Bologna’s effort began to bear fruit in the 76th minute. Santiago Castro, a substitute, scored to reduce the goal deficit, injecting hope into the Bologna squad. Bologna’s perseverance was rewarded again in stoppage time when Samuel Iling-Junior, another substitute, scored a remarkable goal, curling the ball into the top left corner to secure a hard-earned draw for Bologna.
The match ended with both teams sharing the points, leaving Como still in search of their first win of the season. Bologna, too, continues to prepare for their upcoming Champions League fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk, as they aim to build momentum in both domestic and European competitions.
