Bolton Wanderers Women’s Thrashing Victory Over Hindley Juniors
Bolton Wanderers Women secured a commanding 9-0 victory against Hindley Juniors Women at the Dreams2Reality Stadium on Sunday afternoon, propelling them to the top of the league table. Jess Lightfoot, on dual registration from Everton, was the star performer, netting four goals in the encounter. Myles Smith‘s team was recovering from their recent Women's FA Cup exit against Tranmere Rovers.
In search of a seventh consecutive win, Wanderers made two key changes from their previous match. Maisy Mitchell and Caitlin Clarke – in her first start for the team – replaced Hannah Baldwin and Millie Smith in the lineup. Starting with determination, Wanderers immediately sought an early lead against Hindley Juniors, a team they had a hard-fought win against earlier in the season.
Within the first two minutes, Lightfoot demonstrated her speed and skill, beating the offside trap and scoring the opening goal. Wanderers continued to press, creating a number of opportunities. Caitlin Clarke provided a through ball to Milla Hodson, although her shot went wide. Charlotte Tyers also had a close-range attempt saved by Hindley’s goalkeeper, D’arcy.
Despite several missed chances, Wanderers doubled their lead when Milla Hodson scored with a brilliant volley from an Eboni Bradshaw cross. However, Hindley applied some pressure with Lauren Barkley’s striking effort, which was turned away by Bolton’s goalkeeper, Annabelle White.
Wanderers sustained their attacking momentum, and Lightfoot scored her second goal, following a well-placed ball from Eleanor Seals. Approaching halftime, Lightfoot completed her hat-trick by reacting quickly to tap in a Caitlin Clarke header that rebounded off the post, making the score 4-0 at the break.
After the interval, Wanderers made substitutions, bringing on Liv Ball and Nia Wharton. Lightfoot soon added her fourth goal before being substituted for Eva Williams. The onslaught persisted with Katie Holt scoring from a free-kick mishandled by the goalkeeper. Further goals from Bradshaw and Mitchell extended the lead to 8-0.
Despite relentless efforts from Hindley, Wanderers dominated possession and added a ninth goal in the match’s closing moments through Nia Wharton’s setup for Hodson. With this victory, Bolton Wanderers Women remained unbeaten as they prepare for their upcoming fixture against Radcliffe.
