Boston Celtics’ Porzingis Exits Playoff Game Due to Calf Injury
Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis had to leave the playoff game against the Miami Heat in the first half due to a right calf tightness issue. The incident occurred late in the second quarter, with Porzingis signaling to the bench after a play where he pulled up without any visible contact. He immediately went to the locker room, emphasizing his discomfort by pulling his jersey over his face.
The Celtics went on to clinch a 104-88 victory, securing a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference first-round series against the Heat. Coach Joe Mazzulla stated that he had no immediate updates on Porzingis’ condition, mentioning that the center would undergo imaging the following day.
Just before heading out, Porzingis seemed to awkwardly tangle feet with Miami guard Tyler Herro. Despite a moment of limping, Porzingis attempted to keep playing. He was eventually subbed out in favor of Horford for the second half.
If Porzingis misses further game time, Mazzulla assured that the team’s approach would remain consistent. He highlighted the Celtics’ resilience, emphasizing that the mindset and intensity would not change, regardless of player availability.
Porzingis’ absence was felt in the second half, where he did not return to the court. Known for his scoring prowess, the 7-foot-3 center’s regular-season contributions were significant, averaging over 20 points and 7 rebounds per game. Despite a series of injuries throughout the season, Porzingis remained a key asset for Boston.
Porzingis’ health will be closely monitored as the Celtics progress in the playoffs. The impact of his potential absence could be crucial, especially as they aim to advance further in the postseason.
