Boston Weather Update: St. Patrick's Day Parade Set To Brave Gusty Winds And Sprinkles

A cold front will move away from the Boston area this afternoon, leading to improving weather conditions but with a gusty west wind expected. Cloud cover will be variable with occasional sunny breaks and the chance of isolated showers lingering into the evening. Wind gusts of up to 30mph are forecasted through the early part of the night.

Despite the gusty wind, the St. Paddy’s Day Parade in Southie is anticipated to proceed as scheduled, though attendees should be mindful of possible scattered showers or sprinkles. Afternoon temperatures are projected to rise into the mid to upper 50s in southern areas and settle in the 40s toward the north.

As the night progresses, the skies will clear, leading to chilly conditions. Overnight temperatures are expected to stay slightly above average, with the mid-30s in the metro area and slightly cooler temperatures towards northern and western regions where lows could dip into the upper 20s to low 30s. The west wind, which eases overnight, is set to pick up again on Monday.

The start of the work week will be dry in Boston, with a sunny morning giving way to increasing clouds later in the day. A brief rain or snow shower may occur in western and northern portions of the region. Afternoon winds are forecasted to pick up from the west before calming down in the evening. High temperatures will range from the upper 40s to low 50s in the south, in the 40s in the north, and in the 30s in higher terrain areas.

Tuesday, which marks the beginning of Spring, will bring slightly cooler temperatures to Boston. There will be a mix of clouds and sun, with the chance of flurries and snow showers particularly in mountainous regions. The vernal equinox is set to take place at 11:06pm on Tuesday night.

Later in the week, on Wednesday, an upper-level system is expected to move through the area, leading to snow showers in northern mountains and a mix of rain and snow showers toward the south by late day. The remainder of the week will maintain cooler conditions with the potential for more unsettled weather as the weekend approaches.

Wishing everyone a fantastic St. Patrick’s Day!
