Brandon Lake Wins ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter of the Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Brandon Lake was honored as ASCAP‘s Christian Music Songwriter of the Year on Monday. This marks his second time receiving this award, previously earning the title in 2023.

Lake’s songs, including “Praise,” “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” and “That’s Who I Praise,” have resonated deeply in the Christian music community. The song “Praise,” which he co-wrote with Pat Barrett, also won the ASCAP Christian Music Song of the Year. The song topped several Billboard charts, including Hot Christian Songs, Christian Airplay, and Christian AC.

Lake, who is 35 years old, has garnered numerous accolades throughout his career, including five Grammy Awards and 15 Dove Awards. He recently received three nominations for the upcoming 68th Annual Grammy Awards, showcasing his continuing impact in the music industry. One of the nominations is for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” featuring Jelly Roll.

Essential Music Publishing was recognized as the ASCAP Christian Music Publisher of the Year for 2025. Their published songs that earned high play include “Goodbye Yesterday,” “The Cross,” and “Worship Through It.” The award ceremony for ASCAP’s winning Christian and country music writers is scheduled for November 17 in Nashville.

“Praise” has achieved impressive chart success, maintaining a No. 1 position on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart for 31 weeks. The song’s popularity has also led it to become certified double platinum.
