Brian Thomas Jr. Shines as One of NFL’s Top Rookies in 2024 Season
Brian Thomas Jr., the rookie wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, has been making significant waves in the NFL with his impressive performances early in the 2024 season. Drafted by the Jaguars in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Thomas has quickly established himself as a key player in the team’s offense.
Thomas, who stands at 6’2″ and weighs 209 lbs, brings a formidable combination of speed and physical attributes to the field. His 4.47-second 40-yard dash and his college record at LSU, where he led the FBS with 17 touchdowns and accumulated 1,177 yards over 68 receptions, have set high expectations for his professional career.
In recent games, Thomas has been on a hot streak, particularly in Weeks 4 and 5. He caught 6-of-9 targets for 86 yards and a touchdown in Week 4 against the Texans and followed that up with 5 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts. This performance made him the sixth rookie in Jaguars history to reach 100-plus receiving yards in a game and the first since 2017.
Thomas’s target share has been increasing, with at least eight targets in each of the past three games. He is now recognized as one of Trevor Lawrence‘s favorite downfield threats, thanks to his speed and frame. ESPN has ranked him as the ninth-best rookie in the NFL so far this year, highlighting his potential for a double-digit touchdown season.
With 397 receiving yards this season, Thomas leads all NFL rookies and ranks sixth overall. His 85-yard touchdown reception against the Colts was the longest by a rookie in franchise history and the second-longest overall in the NFL this season.
