Britt Baker Withdrawn from AEW Dynamite Due to Illness; Four-Way Match Announced
Professional wrestling enthusiasts were left disappointed as Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., a prominent figure in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), was forced to withdraw from a much-anticipated match on “AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday” due to illness. This development was confirmed by AEW President Tony Khan via a social media announcement on TikTok.
Baker was originally scheduled to face Willow Nightingale in a bout that would determine the contender for the AEW Women’s Championship at the upcoming WrestleDream event. Khan stated, “Unfortunately, Dr. Britt Baker is unable to travel. Britt is very, very sick, and to protect the wrestlers, the fans at ringside, everyone backstage, I think the right thing to do is to replace Britt and give the fans a great match tonight.”
In lieu of the planned one-on-one contest, a four-way match has been organized. Willow Nightingale will compete against Saraya, Nyla Rose, and Jamie Hayter. This shift introduces a new dynamic, as the winner will emerge as the number one contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Britt Baker’s absence from this marquee event is notable, considering her influence and past accomplishments in the AEW. Baker, who has been part of AEW since its inception, held the AEW Women’s World Championship for 290 days, marking the second-longest reign for the title.
The change in the event’s lineup also shines the spotlight on Willow Nightingale, who has been building momentum within AEW. Recently, Nightingale engaged in a confrontation with Mariah May, which followed her victory over Trish Adora on the “Collision” series.
Baker’s contributions to professional wrestling began in 2014, and her journey has seen her perform in various independent promotions before establishing herself as a key player in AEW. Her character, intertwined with her real-life profession as a dentist, has become iconic among wrestling fans.
With the modified lineup, fans are promised a new and exciting dynamic in the ring, as the four former champions vie for a chance to claim the coveted title. The wrestling community is hopeful for Baker’s swift recovery and return to action.
