SAN FRANCISCO — Quarterback Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers are finalizing a five-year, $265 million contract extension, sources confirmed on Friday. The deal includes $181 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The agreement comes after months of discussions that began with Purdy stepping into the starting role in 2022. 49ers general manager John Lynch expressed optimism about reaching a deal during league meetings in Florida, stating, “I think we’re going to get the deal done.”

Purdy first reported for the offseason program in April, indicating that negotiations were progressing well. During the draft week, Lynch affirmed that “substantive talks” were happening that were moving in a positive direction.

After a tough 6-11 season in 2023, where Purdy’s performance dipped, both Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan reiterated their commitment to him. “We plan on being with Brock here the whole time I’m here,” Shanahan said on January 8. “We’re capable of winning a Super Bowl with him.”

Purdy also expressed his eagerness to get a deal done, emphasizing his desire to return to the team. “I want to be able to handle business the right way…and get back to my team as fast as I can,” he stated in January.

The contract closely mirrors the five-year, $137.5 million deal signed by former 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in 2018. While Purdy’s situation presented its own timeline, the urgency was present for both sides to finalize terms quickly.

Despite battling injuries to key teammates during the 2024 season, Purdy ranked seventh in the NFL in QBR and tenth in passing yards. He finished the season with a 1.7 touchdown to interception ratio. Despite challenges, Purdy remains confident in his abilities and the team’s direction.
