Bronny James Struggles to Score in Six Straight Lakers Games

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Bronny James, the 20-year-old son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has yet to score a basket in his last six appearances for the Los Angeles Lakers. The rookie shooting guard, selected 54th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, played just two minutes in the Lakers’ 116-102 loss to the LA Clippers on Sunday, continuing his struggle to make an impact at the professional level.
In his limited NBA minutes, Bronny has averaged 0.4 points, 0.1 rebounds, and 0.3 assists over nine games. Despite his struggles with the Lakers, he has shown promise in the G League, where he plays for the South Bay Lakers. In seven G League games, Bronny has averaged 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 26.9 minutes per game.
“The Lakers assigned guard Bronny James and forward Jarred Vanderbilt to the South Bay Lakers,” the team announced before Sunday’s game. Vanderbilt, who has yet to play this season due to offseason foot surgeries, is also working his way back to full fitness. Last season, Vanderbilt averaged 5.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in 29 games.
Bronny’s performance in the G League has been a bright spot, particularly in his first road game, where he scored 30 points on 13-of-23 shooting, including three three-pointers. However, his NBA transition has been challenging, with limited playing time and inconsistent shooting percentages—37.4% from the field and 21.2% from three-point range in the G League.
The Lakers, currently the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 22-17 record, are balancing their roster as they aim for a playoff push. Bronny’s development remains a focal point, with the team hoping his G League experience will translate to success at the NBA level.
